Ovim standardom se uspostavlja zajednički okvir za procese životnog ciklusa softvera, zajedno sa dobro definisanom terminologijom na koju se softverska industrija može pozivati. Ovaj standard sadrži procese, aktivnosti, kao i ciljeve koje treba primeniti kada se nabavlja softverski proizvod ili naručuje softverska usluga, kao i kada se isporučuju, razvijaju, puštaju u rad, održavaju ili odlažu softverski proizvodi. Ovim standardom se obezbeđuje i proces koji se može koristiti za definisanje, kontrolisanje i poboljšavanje procesa životnog ciklusa softvera.

English scope

This standard establishes a common framework for software life cycle processes, with well defined terminology, that can be referenced by the software industry. It contains processes, activities, and tasks to apply during the acquisition of a software product or service, and during the supply, development, operation, maintenance and disposal of software products. This standard also provides a process that can be employed for defining, controlling, and improving software life cycle processes.
